Ylva Sofia
Stenberg

Soprano

The Highlight is The Queen of the Night by Ylva Stenberg. Her voice has such a full, warm, and also deep sound, and in addition – always spot-on – the high notes in the coloratura arias! And she is also a great actress, always present on stage, who portrays her role with intelligence beyond the clichés.

MDR Kultur, Stefan Petraschwesky (Juni 2025)

As Violetta, Ylva Stenberg has built on impressively since her debut as Giulietta two years ago – both in voice and intensity. She navigates Verdi’s extreme “three-fach” soprano role with shimmering lyricism, clarity, and a consistently full tone.

Neue Musikzeitung, Roland Dippet (Februar 2025)

The middle act of the opera, in which Shemakha relies on a very personal, seductive form of “warfare,” is primarily the poetic and musical highlight of the evening because Anja Rabes dressed her in a dreamlike white costume, and because Ylva Stenberg as queen is simply amazing.

Die Deutsche Bühne, Joachim Lange (November 2022)

There, she has performed roles such as Violetta in La traviata, Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Olympia in Les contes d’Hoffmann, the Queen of Schemacha in The Golden Cockerel, Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos. In the 2025/26 season, she will make her debut as Sophie in Massenet’s Werther and Euridice in Jacopo Peri’s Euridice in Weimar. She will also return to Leipzig as the Queen of the Night and make her house debut at the Royal Opera in Stockholm in the same role – a part she has already performed in Kassel, Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, and at the Komische Oper Berlin. A highlight of the season will be her appearance as a soloist in Mahler’s 4th Symphony with the Staatskapelle Weimar, conducted by Ivan Repušić.
